Baby diapers: measurements
To do its job well, a diaper must be able to absorb duly pee and puppet without provoking redness and, at the same time, leaving the little one full freedom of movement. To make this happen, it is necessary to buy nappies of the right size in relation to the weight, physiognomy and age of the baby who will have to wear them.
- Size 0 (Premature): is the diaper size for premature babies, usually from 0 to 2 / 2,5 kg.
- Size 1 (Newborn): it is the diaper size for babies from 2 to 5 kg and normally are used for birth and the first days of life. Diapers of this size must have an elastic band that facilitates closing without tightening too much on the tummy.
- Size 2: this instead is indicated for the very first months, when the baby usually weighs around 3/6 kg.
- Size 3: Size 3 is usually used from the second month of life, when the baby's size increases (5-9 kg).
- Size 4: diapers of this size are often those with the greatest wearability because being suitable for babies from 7 to 18 kg, they are the type of diapers that are worn for a longer period of time (from 5/6 months of life to the completion of the first year)
- Size 5: After one year of life, we switch to this size (weight range 11-25 kg), which is also designed to accompany the movements of the baby, who now in all likelihood begins to crawl and never sit still.
- Size 6 (Diapers pant): When the baby is older (16 - 30 kg), it's time for panty diapers, similar to small briefs, but still with absorbent abilities. It is the measure to wear until it is time to permanently remove the diaper.
When should I change the size of the diaper?
It being understood that during the growth there are many "intermediate" areas in which a baby can stay comfortable two different sizes of diaper, there are several ways to understand when it's time to change size.
- Reading the instructions written on the packaging: it is not a certified method, but it can help parents orient themselves as they grow up.
- Following standard tables: taking as a reference the weights and age groups indicated in tables and articles as this can help you get an idea of the path to follow.
- Observe your baby: this is ultimately the best method. In fact, it is not certain that all sizes of diapers for the same age and weight are suitable for any child. The physiognomy of the individual subjects is a very important component to consider, so for a parent it is always better to keep an eye on their child and understand if the chosen diaper absorbs enough, if it is tight or too loose, etc.
