How to firm your breasts after breastfeeding

Immediately after breastfeeding, all women feel they have flatter breasts. The same happens to mothers who give their babies formula milk. Medically, it is normal for breasts to change shape after breastfeeding: the glands in the breasts have shrunk and there is more skin.

The supporting lipid reserves accumulated during pregnancy are also depleted.

But there is a remedy for everything (or almost). The more the skin and connective tissue are perfused, the more the pectoral muscles are stimulated, the more the breasts will be in shape. Here are the tips from the German parenting magazine Eltern.de.

Take alternating hot-cold showers

Alternating hot-cold showers have a push-up effect! In the morning, for about a minute (always at ten-second intervals), alternate hot and cold water in the shower with circular movements.

This action trains the walls of blood vessels and strengthens the fibers of the tissues. Even more effective is a special rotating water jet microphone. It costs more effort, but is much more reliable.

Also try to cool the breasts, instead of with cold water, with ice cubes (tip: better to use round ice cubes without edges). With cold shock, the pores of the skin shrink and the blood supply and energy supply to the cells are stimulated.

Apply the cream every day ...

The breast skin is very sensitive because it has no sebaceous glands. For this reason, you should apply a cream every day. There is no miracle cream that makes breasts grow or shrink; but it is scientifically proven that gentle massages firm the breasts.

This action is strengthened if you use creams, which contain, among other things, stimulating microelements such as silicon, plant extracts of soy, alchemilla, ivy or centella as well as the constituent elements of the skin collagen and elastin. These substances help cells regenerate and cause new collagen fibers to form.

... with circular massages

Most of the breast products show their effect only after a constant and long-term application: better if in the morning and in the evening.

The best way to apply the cream? Heat the cream in your hands, then with small circular movements start from the attachment of the breasts and always go up in a circular way over the nipples (do not pass the cream over them) then sliding away to the side. Finally, with your fingertips, tap the length and breadth of the décolleté, stimulating the spraying and passing the active ingredients into the tissues.

Chest out and belly in

It is also a good exercise for posture and for feeling the abdominal muscles again: try to keep the chest out and the belly in, both sitting and standing. In this way, the breasts still gain a few magical centimeters.

For special occasions when you need to wear a dress with generous décolleté, take some powder with a large brush and follow the contours of the breast. Start from the area between the breasts, as if you were drawing the top edge of a bra, and then iron the color towards the shoulders.

Little salt and vitamin C

Nutrition also helps to firm the breasts: follow a diet low in salt because it damages the connective tissue and rich in vitamin C which strengthens collagen fibers.

Remember that ...

  • Long, hot baths dehydrate the skin.

  • Frequent exposure to the sun makes the connective tissue less elastic and causes blemishes and wrinkles.

  • It is best to always wear a bra. Otherwise the connective tissue stretches.

4 exercises for the pectoral muscles

The following exercises strengthen the pectoral muscles and bring the breasts back into shape. Do them at least three times a day:

1. Standing upright, join your hands in front of your body as if in prayer, elbows out. Now press your palms, hold the tension for 15 seconds, breathe calmly and evenly. Release the tension. Repeat ten times.

2. In an upright position, cross the fingers of both hands at chest height, elbows outwards. Now pull your hands towards your elbows. Hold the tension for 15 seconds, breathe calmly and evenly. Release the tension. Repeat ten times.

3. In a standing position, hold a 1 kg dumbbell in each hand. Bend your arms at an angle (90 °) in front of your body. Raise your elbows to shoulder height, so your forearms in front of your chest form a straight line. Now raise your arms 10 cm and then slowly lower them back down. Repeat three times with a short break between each session.

4. In a standing position, hold a 1 kg dumbbell in each hand. Bend your arms at an angle (90 °) in front of your body, raise your elbows to shoulder height, so your forearms in front of your chest form a straight line. Now open (and then close) your forearms in front of your chest by about 20 centimeters. Repeat three sessions of 15 times with a short break between each session.
