In general, in the second month of a newborn's life, everything becomes easier for the mother (and father), if only because she has begun to get to know her baby better, to interpret his signals better and to feel more sure of herself in relation to the care of the little one. But beware, the commitment to take care of the baby has not diminished that much and even if the mother may feel less and less tired, this does not mean that she should abuse her strength, especially if she is still breastfeeding.

The importance of rest

As in the first days after giving birth, even for the entire second month it is advisable for the new mother to rest whenever she can and get help at least for the management of the house.

The importance of healthy nutrition

Eating in a varied and balanced way is always important for psychophysical well-being and is of great help even in the first months after giving birth, especially if you are still breastfeeding. In this regard, it is important to emphasize that during exclusive breastfeeding an extra 500 kcal per day is enough to meet the baby's demands in terms of milk production, so there is no need to exaggerate. As for the type of diet, the same advice valid during pregnancy (and actually for the rest of life) applies:



  • be complex carbohydrates, such as those contained in whole grains, every day
  • Yup vegetables and fruit every day (at least four portions in total)
  • beware of vary protein sources: not only meat, eggs and dairy products but also legumes and fish
  • do not forget to drink at least two liters of water a day

Don't forget about exercise

For your psychophysical well-being it is also important to start exercising again, but be careful: you don't need to join the gym! Going out for a walk in the open air with the child, in a sling or in a pram, is ideal. It can also be done in summer or winter, choosing respectively the coolest and hottest hours of the day.
